Pipe support

Maximum recommended load ratings for supports have been established by through testing and are based on a minimum safety factor of 4 or the allowable stresses specified in the American national standards institute’s code for pressure piping

Variable pipe supports
Variable pipe supports (also referred as variable spring hangers) are used for supporting pipes at points that are subject to vertical movement. A variable support gives a supporting force which varies with the detection of the support spring.

Suitable for general use on non-critical piping systems or on critical systems where the vertical movements are small (usually up to 50 mm). The support consists of a coil spring fitted inside a steel casing, and is fitted with a spring detection scale. Travel stops are an optional extra feature. Variable supports meet the requirements of ANSI Code for Pressure Piping ANSI B31.10. Materials of construction and finish - Carbon steel with zinc chromate finish. Corrosive resistant models hot dip galvanized

Variable supports are in three figure numbers (models) with seven types in each, and 21 sizes of each configuration. The range can accommodate loads from 0.22 to 125 kN. In order to select the correct type and size of variable support, it is necessary to know the working (hot) load, the vertical movement and the direction of the vertical movement from cold to hot position

Constant Pipe Supports

Constant pipe supports provide a constant supporting force for piping for a full range of vertical movement resulting from expansion and contraction. The constant support is used where it is necessary to prevent the load from the weight of the pipe transferring to connected equipment or adjacent supports. They are used generally for the support of critical piping systems.

The support consists of a coil spring fitted inside a steel casing, working in conjunction with a bell crank lever, and is fitted with a spring detection scale. Travel stops are an extra feature. Constant supports meet the requirements of the (US) Manufacturers Standardization Society SP-69 (Types 54, 55 and 56). Materials of construction and finish - Carbon steel with zinc chromate finish. Corrosive resistant models hot dip galvanized.

Constant supports are in two figure numbers (models) with five types in each, and 110 sizes of each configuration. The range can accommodate travels from 40 to 500 mm and loads from 0.12 to 403.5 kN. The type of constant support to be used depends upon the available room for suspending the support i.e. whether the support is to be installed above, between or below steel members and how it is intended to attach the support to these members.

Pipe Support Ancillaries

Quest supplies a number of ancillary items that can be used with Pipe Supports (also known as Spring Hangers) and the associated pipework. These items include:

Sway strut assembly to restrain the movement of piping in one direction whilst providing for thermal movement in other. Directions Sway brace for absorbing shock loading Horizontal traveller and facilitates the supporting of piping systems subject to horizontal movements with limited headroom. Two bolt pipe clamp for suspending hot or cold pipes where little or no pipe insulation is required. Three bolt pipe clamp for suspending hot or cold insulated pipes where the load bolt must be outside the insulation; Hanger rods threaded both ends; Hanger rod with spade end; Structural welding lug; Welded beam attachment; U-bolt; Turnbuckle; Eye rod; Fabricated eye nut; Clevis pin with cotters; Steel clevis
